I am so frustrated. I cannot believe what the health insurance companies can do. If you are independently employed you are basically screwed in the health-care department.
I have psoriasis really bad on my scalp. You can't see it, but it is constantly irritating, itchy and causes a snowfall of dandruff if I even think about scratching it. The only thing that works is Clobex prescription shampoo. My dermatologist usually gives me tiny sample bottles, so I haven't had to buy it yet. Well I'm out of my samples and so I went to fill my prescription and...get this....a three ounce bottle comes to the grand total of $207!!!!! Are you freaking kidding me? And that is already discounted from the typical price of $285. Thanks BlueCross for the huge discount.
Now that Tucker and I have been diagnosed with psoriasis (and me with arthritis) since these are considered "incurable diseases", if we even think about switching insurances we will pay quadruple. Although, I don't know how that's possible when our medical/dental already comes to $900 per month. And it's crappy insurance. I paid $800 of my $1100 root canal, and we paid about $5500 total for Peyton to be born/pregnancy. We have $2500 deductibles and still have $35 office copays and percentages to pay. Ugh. I don't know. No wonder money feels like its disappearing lately....its because it IS.
Our insurance has doubled in the past four years. And it makes me wonder what will happen next? I know there are millions of people like us, who do not have corporate sponsored insurance plans.
OK, [jumping off my soapbox now].....so anyone have any extra Clobex they want to donate to me? :-)

I hear ya...while I do have coverage through work I still end up paying close to $300 for it. Oh, and Peyton's birth is a steal compared to what insurance pays for an adoption!
Eliza has really bad eczema. I just found this lotion that seems to be helping...it might be worth a try (although I'm sure you can't use it on your scalp). Hey, I just googled it and yes, people to use it for psoriasis. You must get some ASAP! I swear I should be a rep. for them. I'm so in love with the stuff. I put it on my gross heals and could immediately tell a difference. I am with you on this one. We too are self employeed and by golly, give us a break on our health insurance. I had a lady tell me in the salon that I had psoriasis (sp?), she said it loud enough that everyone heard. Pretty embarrassing.
Even with Government insurance our dental is just like yours. My dad can't even get insurance because he has diabetes and is self employed. Ryan's parents too, with their pre-existing health problems. It is definitely a huge crisis in our country. Julie is uninsured too and with Ava is makes me cringe.
I have no idea if this is legitimate or not, but I have heard that canadian pharmacies offer prescriptions at significantly lower prices than American drugstores do. A google search gave me this link.

The hardest thing about quitting my job at jamba and going back to school has been losing my insurance. I actually had pretty goo insurance! I am in the process of trying to get Ava on medicaid or CHIP but in the lost 8 weeks I have spent close to $500 in medical expenses with her. She has had basically a constant ear infection! It has been quite stressful.
oh, i think this is a topic that sparks a bit of fire for most people. i am currently in the process of realizing how good my insurance was with uvsc, because ours SUCKS now and has the most ridiculous deductible. the worst part about it, is that most people just have to suck it up and pay because it's paying for something that you really need. and though i've never had to pay for a delivery of a baby, insurance doesn't do much for adoption, so it is quite expensive. ughhhh, i just feel for you. seriously.

I hear you although we have insurance- we still pay a couple of hundred a month on health insurance and i'm really lucky that I have double coverage but I still wound up paying almost a grand because of my leg injury- WE need some major health insurance reform in this country.
All I can say is, I seriously miss the military for that reason the most. I hate having to take Jade in for stupid warts over and over, (poor thing), only to have the office visit co-pay cost more than the treatment. Is there a generic version of the shampoo? I heard Costco has the lowest prices for drugs, I was told some people swear by them and refuse to fill perscriptions anywhere else. I need to look into psoriasis. I have had itchy, flakey scalp since Vegas, and no dandruff shampoo seems to help. I don't know if you know this trick for making expensive shampoo last longer, but I was told by a hair dresser that you should wash your hair twice, the first time just gets the initial bulk oils and product off, then you can use the expensive stuff to really clean the rest of the residue off, and you only need like a dime size drop to do the job, and then you really get the bennefits of the expensive product that is free to be absorbed in your scalp. Good luck! Maybe this new presidency will take on healthcare and drug companies more seriously, cause it's majorly affecting the american people in a bad way, and the economy.
