November 2019

I cannot explain how nervous I was when me, Olivia and Jason were the first ones from our class who had to teach our yoga teacher training group.  There were so many levels and layers to the nervousness!  There are SO SO many things to think about when teaching.  Yes, its the postures and proper alignment/names/etc, but it's also energetically holding space for everyone in the room.  Bringing my authentic self to the mat as a teacher.  Not getting so in my head.  Not giving TOO MANY directions.  Not giving TOO FEW directions.  I was so relieved that we got to teach together for the first time, instead of alone.  We met up at Coil to practice!

Never enough Gigi modeling shots!

I had to practice yoga with a few people and get their feedback.  So I chose Jen and Berta.  Jen had never done yoga before in her life!  Here is the feedback they gave:

I really enjoyed my yoga class with Jamie... she took time to really explain all details needed and made me feel very comfortable.  It was very informative and at the same time a great challenge.  My only complaint would be that it didn’t last longer!!!:)

I came in feeling very nervous since I had never taken a yoga class before, but you instantly made me feel comfortable and calm. As a dance teacher, it’s all about perfecting a step the exact, correct way, looking in the mirror and being connected to your movement but not always your soul.  Today, I loved that you gave us permission to make it a very internal, connected thing. I think sometimes it’s hard to feel ok focusing solely on yourself, so your reminders to quiet our minds were actually really appreciated. The breathing was challenging. I liked when you explained it to us in the beginning and that you reminded us throughout and actually, I wouldn’t have minded some type of reminder in the middle as far as breathing into your belly... as a beginner, it feels like a really strange, uncomfortable concept, so again the “permission” to do it just helps it feel ok to me. Also, this is silly but I really, truly LOVED that when I walked I today, it felt special. You didn’t just throw some mats on the floor and call it good. It felt special with the candles and beads and the folded towels for our necks. I can’t even begin to explain how it flipped my brain from what I was expecting, which was an “exercise class” to something different and special. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Jamie taught me yoga for 30 min. I was extremely impressed by her ability to adapt her teachings to help accommodate me. This was my first lesson and I struggled with the poses. Jamie consistently has me make slight adjustments to my form to help me get into the proper pose or have me blocks or a rolled-up blanket to help me stay in the pose. She was always very aware and patient with me throughout the entire session.
