Day four was our canoeing day! We met at 10:00 to drive down to Provo near Utah Lake. There is a river on the South side where we rented canoes. One was a 20 man canoe, and the others were 3-man.
After securing our life-vests, we hopped into our canoes. Immediately we realized it wasn’t quite as easy as we’d thought! All of the sudden, there were too many people trying to be in charge. Too many “chiefs”! Everyone thought they knew the best way to paddle and quickly there was lots of yelling going on! Some canoes spent the first several minutes lodged in the bank! It was actually quite funny.
Water fight! Tucker and Annie got totally into the splashing, even though the water was disgustingly stale and green. It was great.
This is one of my favorite pictures. If you look closely, you can see the looks on Maddie and Emmi’s face. It’s a look of frustration mixed with teenage hormones :-)
Jordyn did really well after she got the hang of the paddling. She and Taylor spent a long time steering their own canoe!
After canoeing for a couple hours, we headed up Provo canyon to picnic near Bridal Veil Falls. Just up from our picnic, we got to play at the base of the falls where the ice-cold water pooled into a little tiny lake.
And many would think that was enough hanging out for one day. But not us. We came back to Gam & Pa’s house for more swimming and hanging out. The kids continued to play SO well. I think the size and variety in our group of 30 is what makes us able to keep going and going. 5 children, 5 children-in-law and 19 grandkids ranging in age from 3-24!
We were laughing and had to take this picture. I was holding adorable baby Boston, and it just so happened that Jeannine was doing the same thing with Bella.
Another hysterical part of the evening…everyone knows that Pa falls asleep at the drop of a hat. Anywhere, anytime and with anything going on around him. Someone had the sneaky idea to paint his nails while he slept by the pool. Tucker grabbed my flourescent pink and orange and painted Neal’s toes without so much as a flinch! We all got a good laugh about it when he woke up…including him!
