Dance! Dance! Dance!

I recently realized I’ve done a poor job journaling one of the biggest things my girls do.  Dance!

Our girls have always done dance.  Since they were 2.  And not in a pageant-crazy-mom kind of way, just in a casual one tap/ballet/jazz combo class sort of way.  They’ve always loved it, so we’ve always done it.  This year (beginning last Sep) we decided to try a competition team for Jordyn and Lexi.  Our dance studio has two kinds of competition teams.  The crazy ones who spend at LEAST $10K per year per kid, and then a step down which only does a few competitions and it much more do-able for the budget.  That’s the one we chose.

So Jordyn and Lexi are on the 7-8 year olds Company Kids’ competition team.  This means they take one jazz class (which is the routine used in competition), one ballet class, and one progressions class (turns/kicks).  So they take three classes per week.  It has been SO fun to see the huge leap they’ve taken in their dancing skills this year.  They are turning into quite the little dancers!  I’ve been very impressed with their skills.  Their jazz teacher, Ms. Jessica, is such an amazing teacher.  They will have competitions in April and May, and then their recital in June.

Cost-wise it’s been do-able, but I about choked when I had a $500 balance the other day.  WHAAAA?  I guess it hit at once, the remainder of their competition costumes (which I will admit can seem overboard down to matching earrings, brand new jazz shoes, bling, tights, etc) and our monthly dance tuition.  Whew!  That was hard.  But seeing their absolute love for it, it feels worth it.

Peyton is not on a competition team. She takes a tap/ballet/jazz class once a week and her best friend Kayla is in class with her.  She loves it and she also has Ms. Jessica.

Jordyn and Lexi hang out and do homework during Pey’s class…on this day, it was a valentines party so Kira and the girls were enjoying some treats.

This is their sugar-filled valentines party.  I should have brought some RED apples for our treat…to balance out the junk!

Here are all the girls with Ms. Jessica and her assistant, Ms. Kalyn.  Kalyn is an amazing dancer.  She is still a student herself, but also assists a few classes.

Here the girls are with Michelle, their progressions teacher.

Jordyn’s always wanted to be able to do this and has finally learned how this year!

I snapped a few pics of Pey posing in her dance outfit.  She is a little diva, that’s for sure.

Seriously, this is SO Peyton…totally in action dancing.  I don’t know where her rhythm and moves come from, but she’s got SOUL!

Yes that comp team are a costly thing for sure. We did it one year with Ame. Between the cost and the drive to her studio (it was at a studio by where we use to live), we opted to not continue it. Yeah for your girls and Jordyns awesome kick!!
